Mission Statement
Intrepid Rowing Club pursues excellence in women’s masters rowing through individual and group training, technical and racing camps, and a positive, nurturing environment for skill development. Our geographically dispersed members unite to race at regional, national and international regattas. We strive to excel in competition, while also prizing friendship, teamwork, fun, confidence, mutual support, safety and trust. We maintain accountability for our training and actions and aim to be a model for lifelong athleticism and good sportsmanship.
We are committed to:
Continuous improvement: We work to become masters of our rowing craft through positive coaching, technical and racing camps, workout plans, weight training, and other opportunities.
Lifelong athleticism: We strive to maintain the joys and benefits of rowing and related activities. We work to improve our strength, flexibility, mobility and rowing skills. We support our teammates in their return after injury, illness, or other life changes.
Positive relationships: We cherish our rowing friendships and welcome new ones. We strive to be inclusive and to avoid cliques or biases. We exercise discretion and avoid drama.
Excellence in competition: We work to be as prepared as possible for practices, camps and competitions, so that we are able to do our best for our teammates and ourselves.
Sportsmanship and integrity: We understand that we honor and represent our team through our actions and statements. We are committed to playing fair, and treating our teammates and competition with respect. We are particularly mindful of this when representing the team and our brand in competitions, at camps and when traveling in team gear.
Discipline and accountability: We prepare for races and work to maintain our strength and fitness. Erg testing, online rowing classes, competitions and other opportunities to test our mettle help keep us accountable to ourselves and our teammates. We work to develop our resilience. We are held accountable for our words and behavior.
Safety: Intrepid Rowing Club adheres to USRowing’s Safe Sport policies and promotes masters rowing in a safe and inclusive environment. We recognize and address any areas of misconduct as outlined by the US Rowing SafeSport Program.
NOTE: We plan on including a DEI statement as part of this Mission Statement. Mandi and the Advisory Board will decide on the final wording for this.
